UMR EPIA

Mission and objectives

The Epidemiology of Animal and Zoonotic Diseases Joint Research Unit (UMR0346 - EPIA) is an INRAE-VetAgro Sup joint research unit.
To prevent the infectious risks associated with global change and promote agro-ecological transition, the unit studies the epidemiology of infectious diseases in animal populations, some of which are transmissible to humans. The unit's originality lies in its ability to combine epidemiology, biology, ecology and evolution in an integrated approach, using modelling and artificial intelligence.

Research

The UMR's research focuses on pathogens and diseases of interest in terms of animal or public health (zoonoses). It covers both direct transmission diseases (avian influenza, Q fever, leptospirosis, bovine viral diarrhoea (BVD), etc.) and vector-borne diseases (Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), granulocytic anaplasmosis, bluetongue). The UMR is also working on the development of antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
