Lam Chun Ting, dit Angus

Veterinary Epidemiology Researcher – Site of Marcy-L’Etoile – VetAgro Sup Veterinary Campus

Chun Ting Angus LAM

Presentation

  • Chun Ting Angus LAM is a veterinary epidemiologist originally from Hong Kong. He joined INRAE as a veterinary epidemiology researcher in 2026 and is based at the VetAgro Sup campus near Lyon.

Education & Qualifications

  • 2025 : Membership of the Veterinary Epidemiology Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists.
  • 2023 : PhD in Interdisciplinary Veterinary Medicine (City University of Hong Kong, China, in collaboration with Cornell University, United States).
  • 2018 : MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology (Royal Veterinary College and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK).
  • 2017 : BSc in Veterinary Science (Royal Veterinary College, UK).

Research

  • Chun Ting Angus LAM's research focuses primarily on how animal production systems influence the emergence, spread, and persistence of animal and zoonotic diseases. He aims to identify the key drivers of disease emergence and transmission, as well as to develop practical, sustainable strategies to reduce risks and mitigate the impact of diseases on both animals and humans.
  • His expertise includes mathematical modelling of disease transmission, risk assessment, and the design and evaluation of animal health surveillance and vaccination programmes.
  • Through his involvement with the UKRI GCRF One Health Poultry Hub and the Lancet-PPATS (Preventing Pandemic At The Source) Commission on Prevention of Viral Spillover, along with two collaborative projects with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) to develop policy guidelines related to High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) surveillance and African Swine Fever (ASF) vaccine, he has acquired valuable skills and experiences in bridging research, policy, and practice within the One Health framework, providing policy advice to intergovernmental and governmental bodies, organising multinational stakeholder and technical meetings, and building capacity through in-person workshops and teaching.
  • In 2026, he joined the INRAE-Vetagro SUP EPIA unit to contribute to the ZOLA project, which focuses on the impact of poultry production on the transmission and evolutionary dynamics of zoonotic infectious agents, especially avian influenza viruses, in South and Southeast Asia.
  • He firmly believes that translating science into positive impact necessitates a transdisciplinary approach, which is why he deeply values disciplines beyond epidemiology. Currently, his research interests and skills have grown to encompass qualitative research, participatory approaches, systems thinking, system dynamics modelling, systemic risk assessment and management, machine learning, and strategic foresight.

Teaching

  • In his previous employment at the City University of Hong Kong, Angus had taught One Health, biostatistics, food safety, and veterinary epidemiology for the Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, as well as veterinary epidemiology and spatial analysis for the Masters and PhD students at the Public Health department of City University of Hong Kong.
  •  Angus has also developed two scenario case studies for Epidemix (www.epidemix.app), the free online tool for mathematical modelling, focusing on High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) and African Swine Fever (ASF).
